What are the consequences of my financial investments in France?

How will my financial investments in France be taxed when I move abroad?

As soon as you settle abroad, check with the local tax authority to find out if you have filing and/or payment obligations in your country of residence, even if you pay taxes in France.

Please note : on 1 January 2018, the property wealth tax (IFI) replaced the wealth tax (ISF). This means that only property assets comprising property and property rights located in France, shares or stock in property companies holding property in France and shares or stock in property companies holding property in France and abroad now have to be declared.

Subject to international tax treaties, you owe wealth tax in France for years prior to 2018.

You should advise your bank of your status. It will tell you which accounts need to be closed.

Dividends are subject to a flat-rate levy or withholding at source and do not need to be reported when filing income tax returns.

If your household is not based in France, interest is generally tax-exempt and does not need to be reported.
