Your personal account

The impots.gouv.fr website provides a simple way for you to connect to your personal account.

The need for security

Your personal account contains private data. It's normal that it should be protected.
Creating a password-protected access requires three elements that appear on various tax documents – your tax number, your online taxpayer number and your base taxable income.
Access to your personal account is user-specific. Thus, every member of a tax household can access online services by entering his or her tax number. Each member of a tax household can carry out online transactions in the name of the household (paying or filing taxes) and consult his or her personal tax situation.

Locating your codes

Tax number

Your tax number appears on the top left-hand side of the first page of your most recent income tax return.
It is a unique, 13-digit number that you need for all tax-related procedures.
It is printed on the main tax documents that you receive, including your income tax return (see above) and assessment notices for your income tax and local taxes, among others.
If you already have password access to your personal account and you have lost your tax number, you can retrieve it by clicking on "
Numéro fiscal perdu ?" (Forget your tax number ?) under the heading "Connexion à mon espace particulier" (Connecting to my personal account).
Remember where you put your tax number, because you will need it each time you connect to your personal account.

Online taxpayer number

Your online taxpayer number appears on the top left-hand side of the first page of your most recent income tax return.

It also appears on the letter you received this year:

  • If you opted to no longer receive the paper version of your income tax return

  • If you are 20 years old or older, this is the first time you are filing a return and you were included in your parents' tax household the previous year.

This number changes each year. Be sure you enter the number appearing on the most recent income tax return you have received.

If you do not have your most recent income tax return, enter the online taxpayer number from the previous year.

Base taxable income

Your base taxable income is given on the cover page of your most recent income tax assessment notice in the box labelled "Vos références" (Your reference numbers), or on your most recent residence tax assessment notice.

If it does not appear there, you can find it in the breakdown of your taxes in the "Renseignements complémentaires" section (Other information) (25), especially if you have received a tax relief notice.

Special cases:

  • You were included in your parents' tax household

Write "0" for your base taxable income

  • If this is your first time filing an income tax return and you were not included in your parents' tax household, you cannot access your personal account this year. You must file a paper income tax return.

Getting online

You can access your personal account and accomplish your online procedures from any computer with an Internet connection (see "Configuring my computer").

Connecting for the first time

On the login page, enter your three tax ID numbers (tax number, online taxpayer number and base taxable income) under the heading "Création de mon espace particulier" (Setting up my personal account).

Then, enter a password of your choosing and a valid e-mail address.
A confirmation e-mail will be sent to the address you entered.
You have
24 hours to click on the link in the e-mail to activate your password.
If you do not, your password will not be activated and you will have to repeat the process.
If you did not received the confirmation e-mail, please check to see if it is in your spam folder. It is also possible that an error occurred when your new password was being generated. In this case, you must start the process from the beginning.
Once your password is activated, you can access your personal account.

Subsequent connections

When you have created and activated your password, all you will need to access your personal account is your tax number and your password.

Please note : you cannot close or eliminate this access because you are using your login details to access an existing file.

Changing your password or e-mail address

To change the password you originally chose, you need to log on with your tax number and this password.
Then click on "
Mon profil" (My profile), where you can change your password.
Enter your current password and then your new password (twice).

To change your e-mail address, you need to log on with your tax number and your password.
Then click on "
Mon profil" (My profile), where you can change your e-mail address. You will receive a confirmation e-mail verifying that you have access via this new e-mail address.

If you get an error message when you try to access your personal account

If you enter your login details incorrectly, an error message will appear.

If you have created and activated your password, the following message appears after you enter your tax number and password :

"Les données saisies sont incorrectes. Vérifiez la saisie de vos identifiants." (The data you entered is incorrect. Please try again.)

If you have not yet created a password, the following error message appears after you have entered your three tax ID numbers :

"Les données saisies sont incorrectes. Vérifiez la saisie de vos identifiants." (The data you entered is incorrect. Please try again.)

In both cases, please try again and carefully enter your login details, especially your tax number.

Remember, to access your personal account :

  • You must have filed a paper or Internet-based income tax return the previous year

  • You must be 20 years old or more, and have been included in your parents' tax household the previous year

If you entered your login details correctly and the problem persists, please contact the tax office whose contact details appear on your income tax assessment notice.
In this situation, the following message will appear:

"Vous ne pouvez pas accéder à votre espace particulier et utiliser les services en ligne. Veuillez nous en excuser. Nous vous invitons à contacter votre centre des Finances Publiques" (We are sorry, but you cannot access your personal account and online services. Please contact your local tax office.)
